Mary Lynn Cox has been practicing interior design for the past fifteen years in Chapel
Hill, North Carolina. She has lived in the Middle East, and has traveled extensively
throughout Europe, Asia and the African continent to evaluate architectural themes and
design trends. She is currently President of M.L. Designs, Incorporated, an interior
design firm specializing in custom residential and professional office interiors since
1984. Her work strives to reflect her clients' personalities and lifestyles. Both function
and beauty play important roles in her work. In Mary Lynn's words, "I always listen
to my client's wishes. I then let quality and appropriateness to location, lifestyle,
budget and architecture determine our goal for the individual project." Mary Lynn is committed to increasing both her own
knowledge and that of those around her. She is currently an active professional member of
IIDA (The International Interior Design Association formerly ISID, IBD and CHD), is an
allied member of ASID (The American Society of Interior Design), and has served on several
interior design boards. She also teaches an Interior Decorating Class twice annually,
since 1987, to the general public to broaden their personal knowledge and appreciation of
Interior Design.
Ms. Cox has a degree from Mitchell College,
where she majored in Art. She has taken many additional courses throughout both the United
States and Great Britain, including a class at the Inchbald School of Design in London.
Ms. Cox has existing projects, not only in the
Triangle, but at Figure Eight Island, Emerald Isle, Wilmington, Greensboro, Atlanta, GA;
Virginia Beach, VA; and Deer Island, ME. She was recognized with the 1990 People's Choice
Award for the best interior design in the Dream Homes of Chesley sponsored by the
Durham-Chapel Hill Home Builders Association. This home has won numerous design awards and
received attention from national publications.
